FRIDAY JULY 26th

DORGALI WINERY 12 PM

CONFERENCE-INAUGURAL CONCERT

ANDREA CUBEDDU “WEAK LIKE A MAN”

VOICE AND GUITAR

The starting line will be cut on July 26 at the Cantina di Dorgali at 12.00 with the One Man Band by Orani, busker, citizen of the world and bluesman Andrea Cubeddu “Weak like a Man” celebration of human weakness in the face of claims unstoppable of the contemporary and demanding frenzy.

“Weak like a Man” is a celebration of human weakness.

Modern society has outlined a precise profile of the perfect man, devoid of any defect, self-confident and oriented towards achieving a standardized happiness, given by money and notoriety. In the continuous search for stereotyped virtues, we often forget how much the weakness is to characterize us viscerally.

“Weak like a Man” tells of the struggles that are constantly raging in our soul, of the dramas we face day after day, of the confrontation with others and of the awareness of our limited and innate capacity for failure

LUNGOMARE PALMASERA - THE VILLAGE OF JAZZ - 9.30 pm

MALASORTI "S'ArdiCity"

Francesco Medda “Arrogalla” elettronic - Emanuele Pittoni voice - Francesco Bachis trumpet

OPENING GIANRICO MANCA TRANSITION BAND

The Lungomare Palmasera – The Jazz Village, at 9.30 pm the new space used for concerts, exhibitions and tastings, new venue for the evening concerts will host …

MALASORTI “S’ArdiCity” (Francesco Medda “Arrogalla” electronic – Emanuele Pittoni voice – Francesco Bachis trumpet) with the opening of the drummer Gianrico Manca and the Transition quintet “Rizoma” (Gianrico Manca- drums and composition, Matteo Piras – double bass, Vittorio Esposito – piano, Jordan Corda – vibraphone, Antonio Floris – guitar).

“S’ArdiCity”, the new musical project by Malasorti produced by the S’ArdMusic label that combines music from the world and electronics in an aesthetic approach linked to the “dub” of the origins to which is added the poetics of texts in the Sardinian language.

Malasorti draws on and is nourished by contemporary and living sonorities in the Cagliari hinterland: dub, jazz, reggae, cumbia, reggaeton, techno, hip hop and Sardinian popular music, with particular attention to impromptu poetry.

Inspired by the urban sceneries of Sardinia and the south of the world, he speaks of a world in which precariousness, self-construction, local aesthetics merge into a landscape of “unfinished” houses, where blocks of cement, earth bricks, raw and fired bricks and other materials they are always organized in a temporary and changing way, but made definitive by the passing of time. Just like in dub.

All these suggestions are then translated into an electronic and contemporary key and provide a third interpretation of the project based on the triangulation between popular music (ancient and modern), new technologies and the Sardinian language.

If on the one hand there is a vast typology of sounds that constitutes the project on the other hand there is a precise aesthetic linked to the “dub” of the origins. A musical approach born in Jamaica at the end of the 1960s which consists of the real-time expansion and processing of recorded sounds and performed live, all done not with ancient analog mixers and self-built effects but using the most influential musical instrument of this era : the computer.

The still young experience of Transition – band born in 2016 – leads to the album Rizoma, a title that reflects, in homage to the thought of the great French philosopher Gilles Deleuze, the “rebel” nature of this particular root rather than following the traditional vertical path on pivoting the tree, it unfolds horizontally in multiple directions.

The music composed by the drummer and leader Gianrico Manca, was born with the same “multidirectional and polycentric” intent, transcending consolidated schemes and predetermined paths, moving harmoniously and dialectically between structuring and destructuring, trying to “stage” the conflict between unconscious and conscious and its possible revolutionary “cut”.

For this reason Rizoma’s compositions are inspired by the works of unconventional art and thought protagonists such as Jacques Lacan, Gilles Deleuze, Jorge Luis Borges, Jean Michel Basquiat, Sergio Atzeni, Carmelo Bene, James Joyce, Francis Bacon, who , each in their specific field, courageously and without pretense faced the theme of the unconscious understood as a language producer.

Ten intense and profound traces for a music full of sensations and surprising harmonic, rhythmic and melodic findings developed by an ensemble of very young musicians masterfully led by the skilful sticks of Gianrico Manca, to which are added some special “external interventions” as a worthy corollary of a fascinating and engaging project.

Thus in the tracks of the disc we find the interludes of the researcher and dub-producer Frantziscu Medda “Arrogalla”, of the songwriter Davide Casu and of the splendid vocalist Francesca Corrias.

GROTTE DEL BUE MARINO - 11:30 am

ELINA DUNI & ROB LUFT

Voice and guitar

Saturday 27th July we will finally sail to the Grotte del Bue Marino at 11.00 where the voice and guitar duo of Elina duni and Rob Luft will perform. Songs of love, loss and departure, Balkan and traditional Albanian music, are a fundamental part of the style of the Tirana singer, in which the melancholy of the sounds of her land give way to the expression of popular songs and songwriting from all over the world.

Songs of love, loss and departure. After two acclaimed albums with his jazz quartet, Elina Duni publishes his most intimate recording to date.

“Partir”, solo album, presents the Tirana singer accompanied by piano, guitar and percussion, interpreting songs from different sources.

From popular songs to songwriters we find here traditional music from Albania, Kosovo, Armenia, Macedonia, Switzerland and Andalusia, “Je ne sais pas” by Jacques Brel, “Meu Amor” by Alain Oulman,

“Amara Terra Mia” by Domenico Modugno and more. The unique and expressive voice of Duni and the skinny arrangements here create a common thread of desire that runs through the whole album.

“Partir” was recorded in La Buissonne Studios in southern France in July 2017 and produced by Manfred Eicher.

ACQUARIO – ORE 19:30

RADIOCLAVE

Antonio Franca voice bell, Valentina casu voice and maracas, Paolo Corda guitar, Alessandro Zizi accordion, Marco Bande keyboards, Sebastiano peaceful bongò, Jacopo Careddu percussion, Gavino Paddeu bass

Back on land, the Aquarium will be pervaded by the Cuban, Caribbean and African sound of the Radioclave at 7.00 pm (Antonio Franca – voice from Campania, Valentina Casu – voice and maracas, Paolo Corda – guitar, Sandro Zizi – accordion, Marco Bande – keyboards , Sebastiano peaceful – bongò, Jacopo Careddu – percussion, Gavino Paddeu – bass) followed by the usual guided tasting of local products and Dorgali wines.

The band was born on the initiative of Antonello Franca, historical voice of the Orquestra Havana Club, a very active salsero combo in the 90s, and protagonist of the show “Il Barbaro del Ritmo”, tribute to the Cuban singer-composer Beny Morè co-produced by the Orchestra Jazz from Sardinia a few years ago.

The passion for Cuban sounds and the rediscovery of Brazilian Tropicalism, in addition to an innate propensity for musical contamination, led him to find in Alessandro Zizi, a long-standing accordionist / accordionist in the field of Sardinian folk music and in turn passionate about Brazilian music , an accomplice for the constitution of an electro-acoustic ensemble that expresses the influence that Afro-Cuban percussions have had over the years against all pop music.

The first and obligatory step in the constitutive process was the involvement of Sebastiano Pacifico, a percussionist of recognized Cuban extraction.

Jacopo Careddu, former Scekinà drummer and passionate connoisseur of the Cuban rhythmic tradition, is also part of the original line-up. The next step was to involve young musicians from experiences in Cuban music, reggae, jazz, rock-blues and ethno-folk.

IN CLOSING MOSES

Double concert also for the evening at the Villaggio del Jazz – Lungomare Palmasera at 9.30 pm, whose opening will be entrusted to the two young buskers, Moses Concas (harmonica beatbox) and Andrea Cubeddu.

Immediately after The Allan Harris Band (Allan Harris – vocals and guitar, Kerem Gorsev – piano, Ferit Odman – drums, Kagan Yildiz – bass) whose namesake crooner singer and vocalist quoted from Tony Bennett’s favorites, will drag us into the American song thanks at a rhythm and elegance reminiscent of the great Sinatra and Nat ‘King’ Cole.

The singer / guitarist / composer, Allan Harris, born in Brooklyn, in Harlem, has been recognized as one of the most complete and outstanding singers of his generation. Described by the Miami Herald as an artist blessed by “the warmth of Tony Bennett, the bite and rhythmic sense of Sinatra, and the clever elegance of Nat ‘King’ Cole”, the wide and acoustic evidence of Harris’ art and craftsmanship can be heard in his fourteen recordings as a vocalist; his concerts far and acclaimed by critics all over the world, from Jazz to the Lincoln Center in New York, to the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, to the London 2012 Olympics, and a series of prestigious bookings in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

Moses Concas is a Sardinian artist born in Iglesias in 1988.

Since he was a child he has shown a particular interest in art and music, particularly interested in theater and hip-hop culture. Dedicating himself to the Rap and the beatbox during his adolescence he began to write his first verses guided, in fact, by the love for musical expression from which his personal style emerges. From that moment on, he never stopped experimenting, composing and improvising with various instruments; it will only be at the age of 22 that he will begin to consider the harmonica.

In this spirit Moses begins to share his artistic soul in the streets of London performing

in prestigious stages around the world, in cities such as Dubai, Puerto Rico, Las Vegas, Berlin and in countries such as Croatia, France, Egypt, Bulgaria.

Moses is also particularly active in Italy and London (where in 2014 he opened the “Moses

GROTTE DEL BUE MARINO - 11:30 am

CHORO DE RUA

Barbara Piperno flute, Marco Ruviaro mandolin and guitar 7 chords

It closes on Sunday 28 July with a full day of concerts starting from the morning at the Grotte del Bue Marino at 11.00 with Choro de Rua (Barbara Piperno flute, Marco Ruviaro mandolin and 7-string guitar). The duo, as the name of the formation itself conveys, was born with the purpose of spreading the Choro, that is the instrumental pillar music of the Brazilian tradition, which Piperno and Ruviano bring around the world in festivals or on the street.

Barbara Piperno, born in 1980, approaches the music at 5 years thanks to the maestro Raffaele Bersani and in 1996 she graduates in flute at the G. Rossini Conservatory of Pesaro, under the guidance of Professor Fiorenzo di Tommaso.

Parallel to the concert activity as a classical musician, Barbara starts experimenting with other musical genres and discovers the voice as a further instrument to express herself. Many and various collaborations allow her to perform in Italy and abroad and to participate in the recording of various records.

In 2009 the affective and musical partnership with the violinist Angela Benelli and the harpist Elisabetta Rossi is strengthened, from which the trio Ban Ensemble is born. In 2011 she began to deepen Brazilian popular music, MPB and in particular the Choro genre: a research and study journey in continuous evolution that will take her to Brazil in 2012.

As soon as she returned to Italy she recorded her first Choro CD with the Choro de Rua project, together with 7-string guitarist and Brazilian mandolinist Marco Ruviaro and accordionist Paolo Papalini. In February 2013 he recorded the first CD of the Circolo Odeòn quintet which, in addition to the Choro literature, deals with a reinterpretation of some of the author’s passages in the Romagna and the Bolognese filuzzi.

In March 2013 he recorded the second CD of the Choro de Rua project, entitled Aeroplanando, in a duo with Marco Ruviaro. Also in 2013 he began collaborating with the pianist and composer Giovanni Guaccero and Marco Ruviaro on a project of unpublished compositions with a choristic imprint, which in 2015 will merge into the recording of a CD entitled “A roda dos planetas errantes”.

MASSIMILIANO DOSOLI SUPERPOSTHARDBOP 4TET

Massimiliano Dosoli - Clarinets, Andrea Carta Careddu- Battery and percussion Andrea Leone - Tenor Sax, Jonathan Ho - Double Bass

The sunset at the Aquarium, at 7.00pm, will be the scenario of the classic jazz of the Superposthardbop 4tet (Massimiliano Dosoli – Clarinets, Andrea Carta Careddu- Drums and percussion Andrea Leone – Tenor Sax, Jonathan Ho – Double bass), born on the initiative of Massimiliano Dosoli and whose repertoire ranges from original compositions to highly revisited arrangements of songs by Ellington and Monk, Jim Black and Julian Lage).

The project stems from the desire of Massimiliano Desoli to expand the boundaries of his music and to have a stable group that can give voice to his compositions and ideas.

The band’s repertoire ranges from original compositions to highly revisited arrangements of pieces from the jazz repertoire (Ellington and Monk, but also pieces by Jim Black and Julian Lage).

The sound of the group is characterized by the choice of using two winds, the bass clarinet and the tenor sax, instead of a harmonic instrument.

The two horns, often harmonized or accompanied by the double-bass played with the bow, create a sound world that takes its cue from the jazz of the beginning, (above all from the raw sounds of New Orleans and the first Ellington) but which often turns colors close to the Free jazz and alternative rock.

The rhythm section is formed by Andrea Carta, from Sardinia, who literally plays with drums, often using chains or old Sardinian sheep bells, to accentuate the dark and acid colors of the two winds, and Jonathan Ho on the double bass, which is often thrown in grooves far from the world of jazz and more linked to the aesthetics of electronic rock.

Tom Waits, Jim Black, Ornette Coleman and Ben Goldberg are among the band’s main influences.

The band is now very active in the Rotterdam live scene and is competing for the semifinals of the prestigious Erasmus Jazz Prijs, a prominent competition in the Dutch music scene.

OZMOSYS

Omar Hakim - drums, Rachel Z– piano, Linley Marthe – bass,Kurt Rosenwinkel- guitar

CLOSING FABRICE EULRY

We  say good bye to the 2019 edition of the Lungomare Palmasera – The Jazz Village at 9.30 pm with the cloasing of

Fabrice Eulry, the French “pianist fou”, virtuoso of classical, contemporary and jazz music, back from the marathon of over 13 hours of uninterrupted piano, breaking every record ever recorded.

The Ozmosys (Omar Hakim – percussion, Rachel Z – piano, Linley Marthe – bass, Kurt Rosenwinkel – guitar) led by drum legend Omar Hakim, former musician of Miles Davis, David Bowie, Madonna and Daft Punk, along with keyboardist Rachel Z , concludes the 32nd edition of the Cala Gonone Jazz Festival with a great show of fusion, funk and acid jazz.

Omar’s battery has supported an incredible variety of the most popular music in the last 30 years.

From Weather Report, Miles Davis, Sting, Dire Straits, David Bowie, Madonna, Everything But the Girl, Journey, Kate Bush and the worldwide success of Daft Punk “Get Lucky”, Omar is probably the most versatile drummer in modern music.

She first emerged as a brilliant member of the super band Steps Ahead, continued to sign as a CBS solo artist, had a high-profile collaboration with Wayne Shorter on her album “High Life” and later also traveled the world with Peter Gabriel and Pino Daniele. He has 10 albums active as a solo artist to his name.

Originally from Mauritius, based in Paris, the true emergence of Linley on the world stage was with the greatest scout-talent scout in the world: Joe Zawinul. Linley was a member of Joe’s band for the last 5 years of Joe’s life who called him “the best in the world”.

Since Kurt’s emergence with Gary Burton in the late 1980s / early 1990s, he has quickly established himself as a guitarist of his generation. His album “The Next Step” marked a whole new era in the composition and sound of the small jazz group. Since then Kurt has traveled the world directing his groups and, among many other things, has collaborated with Eric Clapton who calls him “a genius”.
